I
first attended GNRC's summer day camp when I was
10 years old. I was looking for a way to satisfy
my intense craving for horses that had struck 4 years
prior that mere weekly lessons would not satisfy.
What I got was entire summers immersed in all the
horses I could dream of. However, after attending
camp for 6 summers, I found that I was walking away
with many more lessons than horseback riding. From
Kim Simac's camp, I learned the great value of teamwork
through working with horses, friends, and even the
responsibility of helping with our yearly horse shows.
Horse's don't braid themselves at 4 in the morning
on horse show day after all. I learned how to work
with my friends (and it can be difficult to get along
with so many young girls over long periods of time)
and that I could also be a leader myself by helping
younger campers. After GNRC, I followed my passion
for horses to an Equine Entrepreneurship degree at
Lake Erie College in Ohio and I will be graduating
in April 2012 with already some bright job prospects
before me. From the values I learned as a child,
teachers and employers alike are impressed by my
hard-working attitude and the willingness to do whatever
it takes to pursue my dreams. I wouldn't be where
I am today without the fabulous learning environment
I was blessed to find in Eagle River at GNRC.
